Children of Bodom

In the last eight or so years, Children Of Bodom that darted to international fame with their debut, 1997's "Something Wild", has gone from being "this amazing band from Finland" to a household name in the metalscene. And that, of course, is obvious given the intensity, sheer quality of their material and the flawless execution.

Children of Bodom is a Finnish heavy metal band from Espoo, formed in 1993. The band consists of guitarist and vocalist Alexi Laiho , Roope latvala (guitar), Janne Wirman , Henkka Seppale, and Jaska Ratikainen . Since their inception, Children of Bodom has released six studio albums, two live albums, two EPs, and one DVD.

The self-titled debut single "Children Of Bodom" went straight to number 1 on the Finnish charts and sold platinum. The debut full-length album "Something Wild" was released in Finland in 1997. The Bodoms supported Dimmu Borgir at the band's Helsinki show in November and were hailed as the new kings of Finnish underground metal by the press. Licensing deal with Nuclear Blast for central Europe was inked quickly and soon after Middle Europe the album was also released in Japan and Thailand.

During the summer 99 Children Of Bodom toured Finland and Europe. In June they did three sold out gigs in Japan with Dark Tranquillity and Sinergy and recorded the live CD: "Tokyo Warhearts-Live in Japan". "Tokyo Warhearts" came out as a limited digibook-edition in Europe in October and all the 20.000 copies of it were almost immediately sold out. The buzz around the band was reaching new heights.

Children of Bodom have come a long way since their humble beginnings, and today stand tall in the all time extreme metal hall of fame, commanding the respect and awe of both fans and colleagues alike. Children of Bodom have been hugely influential, but still, eight years down the road east and west alike, remain the leaders of the genre. "Are You Dead Yet?" is all the proof you need.

Lamb of god

The roots of Lamb of God were planted in 1990 when Mark Morton, Chris Adler and John Campbell were floor mates at Virginia Commonwealth University. The trio began playing at Adler's house in Richmond weathering chilly conditions. "There was no heat at the house," recalls Campbell. "We would freeze our asses off, get really drunk and hang around the kerosene heaters trying to write metal songs. Kerosene fumes and Black Label beer were definitely what fueled our early days."

Since its formation, Lamb of God has released six studio albums, one live album, and three DVDs. The band's cumulative sales equal almost two million in the United States. In 2007 the band received a Grammy nomination for their 2006 album Sacrament. Lamb of God has toured with the Ozzfest twice and appeared on Slayer's The Unholy Alliance Tour in 2006. They have also played at many other major festivals around the world including Download Festival and Sonisphere Festival in the UK, Soundwave Festival and Gigantour. Recently, (as in 2008-2009) they have toured with Metallica (World Magnetic Tour).

The band was playing around Virginia when Morton moved back from Chicago and re-joined the group. Soon after, Burn the Priest released a self titled full length album on Legion Records. Morton's original replacement left soon after, which opened a spot for guitarist, and brother to Chris - Willie Adler.

Lamb of God toured for two years before releasing its third studio album, As the Palaces Burn, on May 6, 2003. Kirk Miller of Rolling Stone gave the album three out of five stars, writing that "unlike many of their overreaching, Slipknot-influenced contemporaries, Lamb of God deliver a meticulously crafted metal assault." The album was voted the number one album of 2003 by both Revolver Magazine and Metal Hammer. The band toured on the first Headbangers Ball tour, where they recorded a DVD including live performances and a documentary, titled Terror and Hubris. The DVD was a success, debuting at number 31 on the Billboard Top Music Videos chart.

"During the 10 years we've been playing together, this band has never stopped pushing the boundaries of what a metal band is supposed to sound like," says drummer Chris Adler. "With this record we allowed our instincts and experience to shape each song as a piece of the larger picture. We let the songs dictate their own direction instead of pushing individual agendas."

Cradel of filth

British black metal band Cradle of Filth were formed in 1991, originally comprised of vocalist Dani Filth (born Daniel Lloyd Davey), guitarist Paul Ryan, his keyboardist brother Benjamin, bassist John Richard, and drummer Darren. After recording a demo dubbed Invoking the Unclean a year later, the group recruited guitarist Robin Eaglestone, who quit soon after recording a second demo, Orgiastic Pleasures; however, when Richard exited the band a short time later, Eaglestone stepped back in to assume bass duties, opening the door for guitarist Paul Allender. Following a third demo, Total Fucking Darkness, Cradle of Filth -- now with new drummer Nicholas Barker -- signed with the Cacophonous label, issuing their proper debut, The Principle of Evil Made Flesh, in mid-1994.

Unfortunately, trouble brewed in and around the Cradle of Filth estate resulting in members moving on, and their next release, 'Vempire', would be their last for Cacophonous. Raging, bloody, business battles aside, the music on 'Vempire' was what everyone expected. A natural progression had taken place, yet none of the ability to produce beautiful gothic epics had left. But, to be fair, everyone was waiting with bated breath for the new full length, on a new label, with newly acquired members. 'Dusk And Her Embrace', their third CD, had breakthrough album written all over it, the one that would start Cradle Of Filth on their controversial, provocative, premeditated ascension.

The band's dizzying lineup changes continued apace as Paul Allender rejoined the group and Martin Powell (ex-Anathema and My Dying Bride) replaced Smith on keyboards for the full-length Midian, which was appropriately released on Halloween 2000. Bitter Suites to Succubi was issued on Spitfire in summer 2001. The group added a choir and orchestra to the lineup for 2003's Damnation and a Day on Red Ink, and moved to Roadrunner for 2004's Nymphetamine. Thornography followed on Roadrunner in 2006, a year that also saw the release of The Cradle of Filth Box Set. Eleven Burial Masses, a collection of live material, arrived in 2007, followed by Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder in 2008. Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide

After several successful tours around the world, Cradle of Filth returned home and began to think about their next album, the second for Music For Nations. 'Cruelty And The Beast' was finished in 1998. This was their most musically mature album, with amazing artwork and another special guest appearance, this time from Mrs Hammer Horror, Ingrid Pitt. Hugely successful tours followed in the US, Russia and Japan. Cradle of Filth became a phenomenon. A regular fixture in the music press, whilst still maintaining a hardcore following is one side of their success, but it is mainly due to the total devotion and energy they have for producing music which the band believe in. Never threatening to disown their roots for success, their music is becoming harsher and the promotion more provocative.

Six Feet Under

Six Feet Under is an American band from Tanpa, Flotida, formed in 1993. The band was originally a side project by Cannible corpse vocalist Chris Barners with guitarist Allen of Obituary. They were joined by bassist Terry Butler (formerly of Massarce and Death) and drummer Greg Gall, Butler's brother-in-law.

Their first album, Haunted, was released on September 1, 1995. Haunted was produced by Brain Slagel(who discovered Slayer) and Scots Burns . Unlike either of the members' main bands, Six Feet Under did not play many guitar solos on the album, and the songwriting was still a work-in-progress. However, the grooves and the distinct vocals were praised. By this point Chris Barnes had made Six Feet Under his main priority. In 1996, in the process of recording , he parted ways with Cannibal Corpse.

Six Feet Under's next release was the Alive and Death EP on October 29, 1996. A dual studio/live EP, it contains three studio recordings ("Insect," "Drowning," and a Judas Priest, "Grinder") and four tracks from Haunted performed live. The band released their second studio album, Warpath, on September 9, 1997. Of note are the tracks "Death or Glory", which is a cover of the Holocaust song, and "4:20," which showcases Barnes' clean vocals and his love of marijuana "4:20," duration four minutes and 20 seconds, was recorded on April 20, 1997 at 4:20 pm.

Maximum Violence was recorded from February-March 1999 at Criteria Studios in Miami and was produced by the band and Metal Blade head Brian Slagel. "We recorded a couple of songs for the EP [1996's Alive and Dead] there," says Barnes. "It's a really comfortable studio with a real good vibe. The obvious thing for us would have been to stay local and record at Morrisound. But we thought of ourselves as a new band and wanted to start off fresh." A limited-edition' digi-pack version of Maximum Violence is also available, containing two covers, Iron Maiden's "Wrathchild" and a cover of Thin Lizzy's "Jailbreak," which are in addition to a reverent rendition of Kiss' "War Machine," which appears on all versions of the album.

They play a more grooving style of death metal compared to either Cannibal Corpse or Obituary, performing slower or mid-tempo paced songs than most death metal acts.but Today, Barnes mainly writes about violence, gore and death, with some political leanings, such as the legality of marijuana and criticism of the government.

Jack Black

Actor, musician. Born on August 28, 1969, in Santa Monica, California. One of the more popular character actors of recent years, Black's acerbic wit and high-energy antics have made him a standard bearer for the Generation X demographic.

In September 2003, Black proved his box-office draw with a # 1 opening for Paramount Pictures – School of Rock from producer Scott Rudin, director Richard Linklater and writer Mike White. Black received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

Black most recently was seen co-starring in Noah Baumbach’s Margot at the Wedding opposite Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Jason Leigh. He starred in and produced the box-office smash Nacho Libre, directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite); and in the ensemble comedy, The Holiday, directed by Nancy Meyers and also starring Kate Winslet, CameronDiaz, and JUDE LAW.

Black's breakthrough came with the 2000 adaptation of the popular Nick Hornby novel High Fidelity. As Barry, a hyper-pretentious record store clerk, Black showcased his knack for brutally acerbic wit. Although only a member of the supporting cast, Black's performance was one of the most memorable attributes of a film that was both commercially and critically successful.

As the lead singer of the rock-folk comedy group Tenacious D, which he created with friend Kyle Gass, Black starred in the 2006 feature film Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny. Their self-titled album was released in 2001 and quickly certified at gold-selling status.

Greenday

Out of all the post-Nirvana alternative bands to break into the pop mainstream, Green Day were second only to Pearl Jam in terms of influence. At their core, Green Day were simply punk revivalists who recharged the energy of speedy, catchy three-chord punk-pop songs. Though their music wasn't particularly innovative, they brought the sound of late-'70s punk to a new, younger generation with Dookie, their 1994 major-label debut. Dookie sold over ten million copies, paving the way for a string of multi-platinum releases that opened the doors for a flood of American neo-punk, punk metal, and third wave ska revivalists. More than a decade later, as many of their former contemporaries settled into retirement, Green Day remained at the forefront of popular music with albums like the Grammy-winning American Idiot.

In the early 1990s Green Day helped bring a new brand of punk rock to the forefront of mainstream music. Bratty and bored, Green Day appealed to the so-called Generation X crowdthe twentysome-things who were getting bored with the slow-moving angst of grunge music. Green Days youthful vigor made their pop punk radio friendly and fun for a range of people, many of whom hadnt discovered punk before. The fact that they were genuinely nice, articulate guys also gave their career a boost.

Members include Billie Joe Armstrong (born on February 17, 1972, in Rodeo, CA; married Adrienne; children: Joseph Marciano, Jacob Danger), vocals, guitar; Tre Cool (born Frank Edwin Wright III on December 9, 1972, in CA; married Claudia; children: Ramona, from previous marriage; joined group, 1990), drums, backing vocals; Mike Dirnt (born Michael Pritchard on May 4, 1972, in Rodeo, CA; divorced; children: Estelle Desiree), bass, backing vocals; Kiftmeyer (aka Al Sobrante; group member, 1987-90), drums.

Throughout the early '90s, Green Day continued to cultivate a cult following, which only gained strength with the release of their second album, 1992's Kerplunk. The underground success of Kerplunk led to a wave of interest from major record labels, and the band eventually decided to sign with Reprise. Dookie, Green Day's major-label debut, was released in the spring of 1994. Thanks to MTV support for the initial single, "Longview," Dookie became a major hit. The album continued to gain momentum throughout the summer, with the second single, "Basket Case," spending five weeks on the top of the American modern rock charts. At the end of the summer, the band stole the show at Woodstock '94, which helped the sales of Dookie increase. By the time the fourth single, "When I Come Around," began its seven-week stay at number one on the modern rock charts in early 1995, Dookie had sold over five million copies in the U.S. alone; it would eventually top ten million in America, selling over 15 million copies internationally. Dookie also won the 1994 Grammy for Best Alternative Music Performance.

Green Day recorded their first EP, 1,000 Hours, in 1987 and by 1989 had enough steam behind them to begin lobbying Lookout! Records for a deal. They also changed their name to Green Day, the title of one of their songs. Lawrence Livermore, head of this independent punk label, signed the band immediately upon hearing them. Green Day began touring in earnest after they released their first album 39/Smooth in 1990. Just the week before that Armstrong gave up the ghost at school, dropping out the day before his eighteenth birthday. Dirnt struggled through and got his diploma. Lack of brains hadnt been the problem for either student, it was trying to earn a living and make music that took the toll on their school work.

The Maine

he Maine's original lineup was formed in 2007 by drummer Pat Kirch, Ryan Osterman, Alex Ross, bassist Garrett Nickelsen, and singer John O'Callaghan, while Pat and Garrett were still seniors in High School. [3] O'Callaghan was asked to join the band by Pat's brother Tim Kirch, who also manages the band through his firm 8123 Management. Some of the bands biggest influences are Third Eye Blind, Ivory, Death Cab For Cutie, and The Starting Line. In the spring of 2007, they added Kennedy who sang in a band, called Last Call For Camden (now The Summer Set), and with whom The Maine had performed. That same year, Ryan Osterman left the band, to take another path in music. They eventually added Jared Monaco. The Maine got their name from a song called "Coast of Maine" by Ivory, one of the band's general influences.

The Maine started when Pat and Garrett were sick of jumping from garage band to garage band and wanted to take their unique vision of what music should be to the big time. John, Kennedy and Jared all had similiar ideas and the band knew they had the final line up as the hits and lyrics kept writing themselves. The Maine didn't want to continue in the screamo trend that they felt was swallowing their local music scene. They wanted to create a new sound and began drawing influences from 90's radio alternative bands. Meshing styles like indie, pop and rock can sound forced, often imitating other bands without a hint of originality, but for The Maine mixing a wide variety of genres just sounds natural.

Although many of the listeners have considered their music to be based upon girls, during an interview, John O'Callaghan stated, that their songs are more about going through life and experience, and figure yourself out as a young person, and the same time falling in and out of relationships.

The Maine love their job because they love music. In January 2007 The Maine had a goal to write original music and make the band their careers. Less then a year later, they had a rapidly growing bi-coastal following, signed onto Fearless Records. Now with their guitars strapped and mics checked all that is left is for The Maine to destroy your senses and capture your soul with their jaw dropping melodies and amazing hooks.

Linkin Park

The seeds of what would become Linkin Park were sown in Southern California in 1996, when three high school friends – drummer Rob Bourdon, guitarist Brad Delson and vocalist Mike Shinoda – decided to form a band. Soon after graduation, they completed their lineup by recruiting three more members: bassist Dave Farrell, turntablist Joe Hahn and temporary lead singer Mark Wakefield. Calling themselves first SuperXero and then simply Xero, the group began recording demos but failed to garner much interest in their songs.

While the band was still struggling to get signed by a record label Wakefield left. Delson's connections at Warner Music referred the band to Chester Bennington. Bennington was a Phoenix, Arizona native who had just left a band called Grey Daze.

The band began to promote itself aggressively. Unfortunately in the process they discovered that the name "Xero" had already been taken. The band changed its name to Hybrid Theory, to reflect their unique sound.

Linkin Park released their first album in 2000. Hybrid Theory, a reference to the group’s rejected band name, was a massive success, becoming one of the biggest debuts of all time, selling approximately 10 million copies in the U.S. alone and spawning several hit singles like “In the End” and “Crawling.” In the process, the band became one of the most successful acts in the fledgling rap-rock movement.

Simple plan

Simple Plan came about in stages that began with the founding of the band Reset in 1994, a Canadian punk band, by high-school friends Pierre Bouvier, Chuck Comeau and Adrien White at the age of thirteen. Reset toured around Canada with bands such as MxPx, Ten Foot Pole, and Face to Face, but only managed to gain minor popularity. The debut album was released in 1997. Comeau soon left to go to college, but two years later he hooked up with Jeff Stinco and Sébastien Lefebvre, and again started making music.

The Montreal-based punk-pop group Simple Plan is comprised of high school pals Pierre Bouvier (vocals), Jeff Stinco (guitar), David Desrosiers (bass), Sebastien Lefebvre (guitar), and Chuck Comeau (drums). The five-piece initially came together when Comeau and Bouvier founded Reset at age 13. Reset was a modest success in Canada, touring the country with fellow punkers MxPx, Ten Foot Pole, and Face to Face. A debut album followed in 1997; however, Comeau bowed out quietly to attend college. Two years later, Comeau let his studies take a back seat in order for he, Stinco, and Lefebvre to start making music.

At the same time, Bouvier was still in charge of Reset, but growing tired of being both a frontman and a guitarist. He and Comeau reconnected at a Sugar Ray show in late 1999 and soon Bouvier was back with Comeau and the rest of his motley crew. Desrosiers, who replaced Bouvier in Reset, was asked to join Comeau and his pals, and Simple Plan was born. They landed show dates with the annual Vans Warped Tour in 2001 as well as spots with Toronto's Snow Jam. By now, Simple Plan had a spunky, energetic punk sound, textured like Cheap Trick, but raw like Pennywise. In 2002, Simple Plan headed into the studio to make a record. Good Charlotte's Joel Madden and Mark Hoppus of blink-182 joined Simple Plan during those sessions and the end result was the fiery, fun No Pads, No Helmets...Just Balls, which was released in spring 2003 on Lava. The group took home a 2003 MuchMusic Video Award for People's Choice Favorite Canadian Group in June. Their Bob Rock-produced second album, Still Not Getting Any..., followed the next year and did quite well, scoring the hits "Crazy" and "Welcome to My Life." In 2005 Simple Plan issued Live from the Hard Rock. The following year, the band scaled back their touring schedule in order to concentrate on writing new material. Simple Plan entered the studio in June 2007 to begin work on their third studio album; the self-titled Simple Plan was released in February 2008. MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide

In 1997, the band, Reset, released their debut CD, which became highly regarded as an excellent debut of any band. However, with the band members being teenagers and looking forward to furthering school studies, band member changes came about. But it was the longing for what the band felt was most important to them that each member reunited with Jeff Stinco (formally in a band with Comeau) and called themselves Simple Plan by 1999.

Poison

This heavy metal band was formed in Pennsylvania, USA, in the spring of 1983 by Bret Michaels (b. Bret Sychak, 15 March 1962, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA; vocals) and Rikki Rockett (b. Alan Ream, 8 August 1959, Pennsylvania, USA; drums). They were soon joined by Bobby Dall (b. Harry Kuy Kendall, 2 November 1958, Miami, Florida, USA; bass) and Matt Smith (guitar). Legendarily, Slash from Guns N'Roses also auditioned at one point. The quartet played local clubs as Paris, before moving to Los Angeles and changing their name.

Poison hit it big in the late 80s, during the hair metal boom that swept the mainstream airwaves. Their sophomore album Open Up And Say…Ahh! was a major success, with the single “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” swooning the hearts of women worldwide. Like most bands in the genre, the ‘90s were a rough time for the quintet, but they bounced back and have become relevant again, thanks to a few summer tours and front man Bret Michaels starring in his own reality show, “Rock Of Love.”

With the blockbuster success of sophomore album Open Up And Say…Ahh!, Poison became one of the top bands in hair metal, standing alongside Bon Jovi and Mötley Crüe. While “Nothin’ But A Good Time” and “Fallen Angel” were high charting singles, it would be the acoustic ballad “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” that won the band instant fame.

slipknot

Slipknot's first songs were composed in 1990, during what is referred to by the band members as the "Basement Sessions", while in this "Basement Session", Slipknot went under the name as Meld before they became Slipknot. Conducted in the basement of Anders Colsefini, co-founder of the band. Many of the songs on Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat and some that were added to later albums were written during these sessions. Crahan, being one of the founders, came up with the idea on having three drummers; first to keep the group together, and second to give a wall of sound. Before Joey Jordison joined, Crahan was the lead drummer. They achieved a stable line-up in 1995, and released a demo entitled Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat on Halloween in 1996. The demo was well-received, and after they won a local battle of the bands in Des Moines, beating soon-to-be-vocalist Corey Taylor's group Stone Sour. A few major record labels became interested in the group. At that time, the band contained five members, but Roadrunner Records didn't want to sign them at first, feeling that the songwriting needed some work. John Kuliak, Midwest Promotion representative for Roadrunner, worked tirelessly to get them signed to the reluctant label. In due course, Slipknot went out to find a new lead singer, and pushed Anders to percussion. They then hired Taylor as the lead vocalist.

Slipknot were formed in late 1995 in the unlikely locale of Des Moines, IA; after some early personnel shifts, the nine-piece lineup settled around (in order from number zero to number eight): DJ Sid Wilson, drummer Joey Jordison, bassist Paul Grey, percussionist Chris Fehn, guitarist James Root, sampler/programmer Craig Jones, percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan, guitarist Mick Thompson, and lead vocalist Corey Taylor. The music scene in Des Moines wasn't much to speak of, and the band's big-time ambition was usually met with disbelief and ridicule, which provided the initial spark for its mostly anonymous stage visuals. On Halloween 1996, Slipknot self-released an album called Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat., which began to build a buzz around the group once it found its way to several labels. It was picked up for distribution by the Nebraska-based -ismist label, and also caught the attention of Roadrunner Records, which signed Slipknot in 1997. Working with producer Ross Robinson, Slipknot recorded their official, self-titled debut album, which was released in 1999. They gradually built an audience through near-constant touring, working their way up to the summer Ozzfest package tour, which really expanded their audience. Their live shows were a much-discussed hit with metal fans, and the band performed with such energy that Crahan gashed his head open on his own drum kit twice that summer, requiring stitches both times. The tracks "Wait and Bleed" and "Spit It Out" got the band some airplay, but most of the buzz came from touring and word of mouth. Finally, in the spring of 2000, Slipknot was certified platinum; the first such album in Roadrunner's history.

Slipknot is currently one of the more popular musical groups of the Contemporary music scene, with their extreme music and violent stage performances. Their albums and home videos have achieved Platinum-sales status, with Grammy nods in the Best Heavy Metal and Best Hard Rock categories for songs from all four of their albums.
The band is also well-known for its peculiar image: the members wear matching uniforms (some of which have UPC barcodes printed on the them) and each has a unique mask.

black sabbath

Black Sabbath are an English rock band, formed in Birmingham in 1968 by Ozzy Osbourne (lead vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Terry "Geezer" Butler (bass), and Bill Ward (drums and percussion). The band has since experienced multiple lineup changes, with a total of twenty-two former members. Originally formed as a heavy blues-rock band named Earth, the band began incorporating occult- and horror-inspired lyrics with tuned-down guitars, changing their name to Black Sabbath and achieving multiple gold and platinum records in the 1970s.
Black Sabbath is credited with creating heavy metal. The success of their first two albums - Black Sabbath and Paranoid - marked a paradigm shift in the world of rock. Not until Black Sabbath upended the music scene did the term “heavy metal” enter the popular vocabulary to describe the denser, more thunderous offshoot of rock over which they presided.
The Black Sabbath story began in Birmingham, England, where Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward were looking to escape a life of factory work through music. The four musicians got their start in such psychedelic outfits as the Rare Breed and Mythology (although Osbourne had been a short-haired Mod who loved soul music). Influenced by the reigning British blues bands - , , John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers - the four of them formed Earth Blues Company (shortened to Earth), in 1968.
Vocalist Ozzy Osbourne's drinking led to his firing from the band in 1979. He was replaced by former Rainbow vocalist Ronnie James Dio. After a few albums with Dio's vocals and his songwriting collaborations, Black Sabbath endured a revolving lineup in the 1980s and 1990s that included vocalists Ian Gillan, Glenn Hughes, Ray Gillen and Tony Martin. In 1992, Iommi and Butler rejoined Dio and drummer Vinny Appice to record Dehumanizer. The original lineup reunited with Osbourne in 1997 and released a live album, Reunion. The early/mid 1980s line-up featuring Iommi, Butler, Dio, and Appice reformed in 2006 under the title, Heaven & Hell.

moterhead

Motörhead are a British rock band formed in 1975 by bassist, singer and songwriter Ian Fraser Kilmister, known mostly by his stage name Lemmy, who has remained the sole constant member. The band was part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, which re-energized heavy metal in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Usually a power trio, Motörhead had particular success in the early 1980s .

While Motörhead are typically classified as heavy metal, speed metal or thrash metal (and often regarded as a foundational influence on the latter two syles); Lemmy dislikes such labels, preferring to describe the band's music simply as "rock and roll". Motörhead's approach has remained the same over the band's career, preferring to play what they enjoy and do best, their like for the early rock and roll is reflected in some of their occasional cover songs. Motörhead's lyrics typically cover such topics as war, good versus evil, abuse of power, promiscuous sex, substance abuse, and "life on the road".

In a biography of the band, senior editor for Allmusic, Stephen Erlewine, wrote: "Motörhead's overwhelmingly loud and fast style of heavy metal was one of the most groundbreaking styles the genre had to offer in the late '70s." and though "Motörhead wasn't punk rock ... they were the first metal band to harness that energy and, in the process, they created speed metal and thrash metal." Whether they created these genres might be subject to debate, but Motörhead were unquestionably influential.

Deep purple

Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in Hertford in 1968.Along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, they are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although some band members have tried not to categorise themselves as any one genre. The band also incorporated classical music, blues-rock, pop and progressive rock elements. They were once listed by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's loudest band, and have sold over 100 million albums worldwide. Deep Purple were ranked #22 on VH1's Greatest Artists of Hard Rock programme.

The revamped Deep Purple's first album, 1970's Concerto for Group and Orchestra, further sought to fuse rock and classical music. When the project, which was recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, was poorly received, Blackmore took creative control of the band, steering it towards a heavier, guitar-dominated approach which took full advantage of Gillan's powerful vocals. The gambit worked; 1970's Deep Purple in Rock heralded the beginning of the group's most creatively and commercially successful period. At home, the album sold over a million copies, with the subsequent non-LP single "Black Night" falling just shy of topping the U.K. pop charts. Released in 1971, Fireball was also a smash, scoring a hit with "Strange Kind of Woman."

Despite their association with the sub-genre, Deep Purple has never been purely a heavy metal band, though many later heavy metal bands cite their influence. The group has frequently changed styles and lineups over the years, but has always included virtuoso players in its ranks and placed a high priority on musicianship. Some incarnations of Deep Purple have brought aspects of jazz to a rock context due to their frequent use of their songs as vehicles for extended and sophisticated solos.

The revitalized band enjoyed success throughout the rest of the 1990s, releasing the critically acclaimed Purpendicular in 1996, and Abandon in 1998. Most of this period was spent on the road via constant touring. The group continued forward until 2002, when founding member Jon Lord (who, along with Ian Paice, was the only member to be in all incarnations of the band) announced he was leaving the band to pursue personal projects (especially orchestral work). Rock keyboard veteran Don Airey (Rainbow/Whitesnake, etc.), who had helped Purple out when Lord was injured in 2001, joined the band. In 2003, Deep Purple released their first studio album in five years, the highly prasied Bananas, and began toruing in support of the album immediately.

Led zepplin

Led Zeppelin was a British rock band formed in 1968 with a boisterous, feral, and revolutionary approach to the British blues-rock. In the early 1970s, they became one of the most popular bands in the world. More than two and half decades after the band dissolved in 1980, their music continues to sell well, gain widespread FM radio play, and continues to influence modern rock. To date, they have sold more than 100 million albums in the United States alone, and they are the fourth best selling music group of all time.

The band was originally formed in 1968 by guitarist Jimmy Page under the name The New Yardbirds in order to fulfil some performance commitments booked in Scandinavia before the break up of the original Yardbirds. The original Led Zeppelin line-up consisted of Page, vocalist Robert Plant, drummer John Bonham, and former Yardbirds bassist Chris Dreja, but Dreja left very early in the band's existence to become a photographer (and would later take the photograph which appeared on the back of the group's debut album). He was replaced by Page's long time friend John Paul Jones. Page's first choice as singer, Terry Reid, declined the opportunity but recommended Plant, who accepted and then brought in his old friend Bonham from the defunct Band of Joy. Reports vary as to where the band first all met - a pub in Walsall, Staffordshire or a rehearsal room in London being cited by some.

The most famous of the nine albums originally released by the group was an untitled 1971 recording—often called "ZOSO" after the four runes on its cover—that included "Stairway to Heaven." Led Zeppelin disbanded after Bonham's death from alcohol. The group was inducted into the Rock...

Megadeth

Megadeth is an American heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1983. Founded by Dave Mustaine and David Ellefson following Mustaine's departure from Metallica, the band has since released twelve studio albums, six live albums, two EPs, twenty six singles, thirty-two music videos, and three compilations.
When Megadeth appeared on the scene in the mid-1980s, their combination of furious, highspeed sonic barrage and apocalyptic lyrics signaled the advent of a new and more serious brand of metal. Variously described as speedmetal, thrash-metal, or death-metal, Megadeth and a wave of other bands offered an alternative to the glam-pop stylings of the decade’s successful “lite metal” acts. When the group arrived, wrote Melody Maker’s Caren Myers, “They were so lean, so mean, so rock that they made [arena-rockers] Guns N’ Roses sound like a quaker picnic in Harmony, Arkansas.” After battling with drugs and alcohol for years, the band’s leader, Dave Mustaine—a former member of the metal supergroup Metallica—got sober. His recovery motivated a flurry of artistic production; in 1992 the band produced its most commercially accessible record, Countdown to Extinction. While some admirers of Megadeth’s earliest, most uncompromising work found Countdown less intoxicating, the record advanced the group’s popularity and visibility.
For the next few years, Megadeth toured and gained a following, signing with the independent label Combat in late 1984. The following year, the group released their debut, Killing Is My Business...And Business Is Good!, which received strong reviews, not only in metal-oriented publications, but also in mainstream music magazines. The album sold very well for an independent release, which attracted the attention of major record labels. By the end of the year, the group had signed with Capitol. Megadeth's first major-label album, Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?, was released in the fall of 1986. Like its predecessor, Peace Sells was greeted by strong reviews and sales; it eventually went platinum.
Its group members are:-
Chris Poland, James LoMenzo, Glen Drover, Kerry King, Jay Reynolds, Al Pitrelli, Jeff Young, Shawn Drover, David Ellefson, Dave Mustaine, Nick Menza, Gar Samuelson, Lee Rash, Jimmy DeGrasso, Marty Friedman, Chuck Behler .

Nickel back

This rock band was formed on 1996, Alberta, Canada.Led by vocalist Chad Kroeger, the band initially emerged in the late '90s as Canada's answer to Creed, prizing a blend of gruff vocals and distorted (yet radio-friendly) guitars. After a handful of singles failed to gain much traction in Canada, "How You Remind Me" caught hold in 2001, eventually topping the charts in several countries while gathering four Grammy nominations and four Juno Awards. Creed imploded several years later, but Nickelback's popularity only grew as the decade progressed, effectively eclipsing those acts that had once informed the band's sound.

January 2000 saw the arrival of The State, Nickelback's second independent release. Issued at a time in which Canadian content requirements were increased (and, accordingly, local radio stations had begun to desperately seek out homegrown product), the album fared very well on indie charts. Nickelback toured ceaselessly in support of The State, logging approximately 200 shows while playing alongside other groups of the burgeoning post-grunge genre.

Since Nickelback used Kroeger’s studio and co-produced the album with their friend Joey Moi, they were not in a fevered rush to finish up. And, over the next seven months, they spent countless hours making sure every song on their fourth album, All the Right Reasons, was exactly the way they wanted it. The resulting 11 tracks are the most insistent, dynamic and diverse Nickelback has conjured to date. The first single “Photograph” is reflective and earnest, constructed on a foundation of multi-layered vocals, infectious melodies and guitars that build to a triumphant buzz.

In February 2005, Nickelback announced the departure of Ryan Vikedal. He was soon replaced by 3 Doors Down's former drummer, Daniel Adair, and Nickelback returned to Kroeger's studio in Vancouver to begin work on another album. ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons and Pantera's Dimebag Darrell (who unfortunately died before the album's release) were guests on the chart-topping All the Right Reasons, which arrived in October 2005. The album proved to be Nickelback's most popular effort to date, remaining in the Billboard Top 30 for over two years and selling over 7 million copies in the U.S. alone.

This is also one of my favorite bands.some of its successful songs are "photograph",
"how you remind me" , "rockstar",and so on............

Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam
was one of the most popular bands of the grunge music era in the early 1990s. The band was formed in the early 1990 in Washington but in no time, it was able to make a prominent reorganization among people. The also become the part of Grunge movement and till now, they have been able to set up records in history. They have sold more than thirty millions records in the US while more than sixty million worldwide. You need to be sure that you buy Pearl Jam Tickets before it gets too late and in case you do not know about the formation of band, Eddie Vedder, MecCready, Matt Cemeon and Jeff Vement are a part of the band. As many other bands, Pearl Jam has never took it long to prove themselves as the best music sensation and soon after their intro with the music career.

From the time of their first album named as ten, Pearl Jam have been known out as the symbol of talent, vision and success. They have been able to prove their successful career and this is the reason they have been known as best American rock stars of all time. No doubt that all the fans know them well but people who do not know them will be happy to know that this band has got the award of best live performance. There is no doubt that the band has been able to make name in short time passage but you need to realize that you can not think about wasting time to buy Pearl Jam Tickets. People do not waste time to get concert tickets and you need to make sure you do not miss the action. In case you will make sure that you buy the tickets from online seller, you have to be sure that you are getting a great gift as you will be able to know about the complete schedule.

Pearl Jam's first three albums were huge, commercially and critically. After that time, possibly in part because of a lawsuit alleging a Ticketmaster monopoly which stifled the launch of supportive tours, Pearl Jam lost fans (and the lawsuit). Also, at this time, Eddie Vedder began to steer the group in a non-commercial direction, and the music began to re-earn its alternative label. No Code is the primary example, as is Vedder's collaboration with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan on the Dead Man Walking soundtrack.

Its current members are:-

Jeff Ament - Bass Guitar
Matt Cameron - Drums
Stone Gossard - Guitar
Mike McCready - Guitar
Eddie Vedder - Guitar, Lead Vocals

RHCP

Michael Balzary (Flea), Hillel Slovakand and Jack Irons were some high school friends. They had some musical ambitions and together started a band called Anthom. They managed to score them selves a few gigs but many club owners hid the youngsters backstage in fear of getting charged with minors on the premises. Anthem even had regulars at the show including a man named Anthony kedis. The four who all attened Fairfax High School became friends and Anthony even began opening the bands shows with a few of his poems.

They renamed there band the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The band did there first out of town show in Aspen at the Cathay Grand Club. There most notorious performance however was at the Kit Kat Klub.

Red Hot Chili Peppers struggled through the ‘80s, but eventually became one of the most celebrated rock groups of the ‘90s and early 21st century. The band confronted tragedy, personnel changes and addiction, but their template of punk, funk and pop is as recognizable as any in contemporary rock. The band formed in the early ‘80s in Los Angeles, with Anthony Kiedis on vocals, Michael Balzary (later going by Flea) on bass, Hillel Slovak on guitar, and Jack Irons on drums. After initially calling themselves Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem, they changed their moniker to Red Hot Chili Peppers.

They've combined elements of funk, rock, blues, grunge, jazz, reggae, and rap. They should have their own music genre. The Peppers have a history, something that many bands these days lack. Since 1983 they've experience relationship problems, drug addictions, and the death of a band member.

Its greatest hit albums are Stadium Arcadium, By The Way, Californication, etc.................

Eric clapton

His real name is Eric Patrick Clapton.he was born on March 30, 1945 in Ripley, England, U.K.his wife's name is Melia McEnery and his ex-wife was Pattie Boyd Harrison.

IN the late 1960s, one of the most prominent pieces of graffiti seen in London and New York was "Clapton is God." Thirty years later, the stalwart guitarist and singer continues to hold the initiated enthralled, and a fair share of his present-day fans weren't even born when those words of worship were emblazoned on public edifices. Clapton's meandering and groundbreaking musical career has been punctuated by extreme personal hardship and tragedy. Through the emotional truth of his music, he has sought refuge and release from the suffering of drug and alcohol addiction, personal relationships gone awry, and the deaths of several loved ones.

Clapton's meandering and groundbreaking musical career has been punctuated by extreme personal hardship and tragedy. Through the emotional truth of his music, he has sought refuge and release from the suffering of drug and alcohol addiction, personal relationships gone awry, and the deaths of several loved ones.

In late 1990, the fates delivered Clapton a terrible blow when guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan and Clapton road crew members Colin Smythe and Nigel Browne--all close friends of Clapton's--were killed in a helicopter crash. A few months later, he was dealt another cruel blow when Conor, his son by Italian model Lori Del Santo, fell forty-nine stories from Del Santo's Manhattan high-rise apartment to his death. Clapton channeled his shattering grief into writing the heart-wrenching 1992 Grammy-winning tribute to his son, "Tears in Heaven." (Clapton received a total of six Grammys that year for the single and for the album Unplugged.)

In the past 30 years, Clapton has released 15 studio albums which have contained songs that are considered by many to be anthems more than singles, including such mega-hits as "Knockin' on Heaven's Door," "Lay Down Sally," "Cocaine" and "Wonderful Tonight."

Pink Floyd

While Pink Floyd are mostly known for their grandoise concept albums of the 1970s, they started as a very different sort of psychedelic band. Soon after they first began playing together in the mid-'60s, they fell firmly under the leadership of lead guitarist Syd Barrett, the gifted genius who would write and sing most of their early material. The Cambridge native shared the stage with Roger Waters (bass), Rick Wright (keyboards), and Nick Mason (drums). The name Pink Floyd, seemingly so far-out, was actually derived from the first names of two ancient bluesmen (Pink Anderson and Floyd Council). And at first, Pink Floyd were a much more conventional act that the act into which they would evolve, concentrating on the rock and R&B material that were so common to the repertoires of mid-'60s British bands.

The reason Pink Floyd never made a similar album was that Piper was the only one to be recorded under Barrett's leadership. Around mid-1967, the prodigy began showing increasingly alarm signs of mental instability. Syd would go catatonic onstage, playing music that had little to do with the material, or not playing at all. An American tour had to be cut short when he was barely able to function at all, let alone play the pop star game. Dependent upon Barrett for most of their vision and material, the rest of the group were nevertheless finding him impossible to work with, live or in the studio.

Pink Floyd still have a huge fan base, but there's little that's noteworthy about their post-Waters output. They know their formula, they can execute it on a grand scale, and they can count on millions of customers--many of them unborn when Dark Side of the Moon came out, and unaware that Syd Barrett was ever a member--to buy their records and see their sporadic tours. The Division Bell, their first studio album in seven years, topped the charts in 1994 without making any impact on the current rock scene, except in a marketing sense. Ditto for the live Pulse album, recorded during a typically elaborately staged 1994 tour, which included a concert version of The Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety. Waters' solo career sputtered along, highlighted by a solo recreation of The Wall, performed at the site of the former Berlin Wall in 1990, and released as an album. Syd Barrett, it was reported in the summer of 1996, was lying ill in a Cambridge hospital, unable or unwilling to regulate his diabetic condition. -- Richie Unterberger

Creed

This band was formed on 1995, Tallahassee, FL.Creed formed after Scott Stapp and Mark Tremonti, friends at Florida State University and high school classmates at Orlando's Lake Highland Preparatory School, decided to form a band, recruiting Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips to complete the quartet.

During the late '90s, Creed emerged from a veritable sea of post-grunge contenders to become one of the decade's biggest-selling rock bands. At a time when many other Seattle disciples were lapsing into inactivity or experimenting with less commercial sounds, Creed carried the torch of straightforward, grungy hard rock without apology -- and they were amply rewarded, selling millions upon millions of albums in just a few years' time.

In 2001, "My Sacrifice", the first single off Creed's third album Weathered, was used in a series of promotional tribute videos made by World Wrestling Entertainment. The song peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart on February 9, 2002, and #1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart for 9 consecutive weeks, starting in December 2001. In early 2002, "Bullets" was released as a single, along with a costly, special effects-laden video.

The band booked a series of shows for the summer of 2009 in support of the album Full Circle, which was released later that year. ~ Andrew Leahey & Steve Huey, All Music Guide .
